Message from the Governor

Be a Gift to the World!!

March 2016
District Governor's Message

I just returned home from another successful D7790 President-Elect Training (PETS) and really wanted to sit right down to share the good news with everyone. This successful training we lovingly call PETS, is led by our District’s experienced Rotarians to develop and train the next generation of new leaders for our District and Rotary.  It was an inspiring weekend filled with the energy and excitement of the 2016-17 Class Officers and District Governor-Elect Jean-Louis Joly. It was also a District PETS which included many firsts. We started with a very inspirational visit by RI Director Julia Phelps, the first simultaneous-twin video display of presentations in French and English, the first 7 month old to attend PETS with his Mom and Dad, a young husband and wife team training to be co-presidents of the Sept Iles Rotary Club and the first time District Rotarians were able to register and pay online for PETS as well as the 2016 District Conference. PDG Elaine Toussaint PETS Chair along with our District trainers Claude Martel and Corina Larsen led their “cracker jack” teams of talented trainers in preparing this year’s President-Elects, Vice-Presidents and Secretaries with team building activities like the compass activity, tips on running their club meetings,  engaging their club members and help with setting goals for increasing membership and foundation giving.

Inspirational messages were given by Julia and Jean-Louis about small acts of service and kindness having life changing impacts on individuals and those around them, motivating us all to continue our Service to Humanity. Other sessions were held on RYLA, the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and instructions for using Rotary Club Central and the District website. The clubs also pledged to support next year’s District project helping to improve people’s lives in Cambodia and they approved the 2016-17 District budget.

This special weekend of training reminds us all of last year’s 2015-16 PETS and the work being done this year by district and club leaders and all our Rotarians. Let it re-energize us as we work together in our last 100 days of this year’s theme Be a Gift to the World. Let’s finish strong to help provide the building blocks for a great start for next year’s leaders with their theme of Rotary Serving Humanity.

In closing let us be inspired to serve with Julia’s Rotary story that she shared with us of the first time that little girl said “Mom” (ask your club leaders who attended PETS to share this story with you) and use the powerful music and lyrics of Beyoncé’s hit song, "I was here…I lived, I loved… I was here.”

YiRS and Peace,
Be HAPPY
DG Al
