Our Rotary Club was honored to host Chancellor Dannel P. Malloy, J.D, University of Maine System, at our weekly meeting this evening.
Chancellor Dannel P. Malloy, a former Brooklyn, NY assistant district attorney, practicing lawyer, 14-year Mayor of Stamford, CT, and two-term Governor of Connecticut, brings over 22 years of public service leadership to the University of Maine System.
Since 2019, he has led the University of Maine System’s collaborative efforts across Maine’s seven public universities and law school, serving students and communities statewide. This work resulted in the creation of the University of Maine System Strategic Plan, the first in nearly 20 years, with broad support and input from various stakeholders. The UMS also achieved first-in-the-nation state-wide unified accreditation, eliminating the need for individual university accreditation and enabling joint evaluation of their use of state resources, academic programs, quality, and effectiveness.
Chancellor Malloy’s impressive CV includes a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from Boston College, a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and six honorary degrees.
In 2016, he received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for defending the U.S. resettlement of Syrian refugees amid security concerns. Other notable recipients of this award include U.S. Presidents Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford.
In 1982, Chancellor Malloy married his wife, Cathy, whom he met at Boston College. They have three sons, Dannel, Ben, and Sam, and a Jack Russell Terrier named Hazel.
We also have it on good authority that he is renowned for making exceptional blueberry muffins, I believe we need to invite him back to verify this claim 🙂
It was an absolute pleasure having Chancellor Malloy join us, and we extend an open invitation for him to return at his convenience.
